Before you start.
An Obsidian vault available as a folder on this Mac, plus Doppel Pro or the trial for selected-source imports. No Obsidian account, API key, or plugin is required.
What you can do
- Read a selected vault’s Markdown notes, frontmatter, tags, and wikilinks.
- Exclude private folders and assign the imported vault to a Doppel project.
Connect Obsidian.
Open Manage sources.
Go to Settings → Integrations → Manage sources. In Selected sources, choose Add account. This is separate from Add integration.
Add a local vault account.
Choose Obsidian as the service, give the account a recognizable label, and select Add account. No credential field is needed.
Choose where the source belongs.
Select Choose source. Set Use in to the intended Doppel project, or All-work chats only. A source assigned to one project cannot be requested from another project’s chat.
Choose the vault folder.
Select Choose vault and grant access to the vault’s folder. Enter any Excluded folders as comma-separated paths relative to that vault, such as Private, Journal. Check the source name and choose Add source.
Check the import.
Choose Add source, then inspect its coverage and Last complete sync. Use Sync now to refresh it. Ask a question in the project you assigned, or an All-work chat if you chose All-work chats only.
Start with something you know
Check the connection.
Find my notes about the launch checklist in the vault I imported.
Open a cited note in the original vault. Check that notes inside your excluded folders were not imported.
Data and permissions.
Doppel reads the selected local folder and builds a local copy for memory. This connector makes no Obsidian API request. Any sync service you separately use for the vault continues to follow its own settings.
Current limits
Read-only Markdown import. Hidden files, symbolic links, attachments, and excluded folders are skipped. The vault must be available locally; Doppel does not fetch remote-only files or change your notes.
Disconnect or change access.
In Settings → Integrations → Manage sources, select this account. Choose Remove source to remove one imported source, or the account menu → Disconnect account to remove its credentials and selected imports. Provider originals remain unchanged. Saved chats and exports are separate; revoke an API key at the provider if you also want to invalidate it there.
If something isn’t working.
Notes are missing
Confirm that the files are downloaded to this Mac, use Markdown, and are outside excluded or hidden folders. If the vault moved or folder access was lost, remove the source and choose the correct vault folder again.
